NECAC Receives funding from NeighborWorks America to Administer Financial Literacy Program

President & CEO Don Patrick of the not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) has announced that the agency is the recipient of a $10,000 grant award from the NeighborWorks America organization to administer and support their HomeOwnership Financial Literacy Program.

NeighborWorks America is a national non-profit organization created by Congress and funded by public- and private-sector investors to provide financial support, technical assistance and training for communities across the nation. NECAC became a NeighborWorks member in April 2005 after an intense year-long audit and approval review process.

According to NECAC Deputy Director of Housing Development, Carla Potts, “the NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Financial Literacy program funding will allow NECAC to continue counseling and educating prospective homeowners to insure a long term homeownership experience”.

Potts also commented that The Financial Literacy curriculum focuses on helping the participant understand the importance of creating and maintaining a family budget, monitoring their credit score and defining many of the complex financial terms used during the home buying process.

The Home Ownership courses are offered at no charge every month at the NECAC St. Charles County Service Center, which is located at 3400 Meadow Pointe Drive in O’Fallon and as needed in the other counties NECAC serves. For more information or to enroll in the Financial Literacy Program, interested persons should contact the local NECAC Service Center in their county or LaDonna Otto at

NECAC delivers more than 60 social service, community health and public housing programs to clients through more than 30 contracts and grants with federal, state and local governments, private businesses and other non-profit organizations. The agency has 140 full-time and more than 250 part-time employees, assisting in excess of 16,000 families and 60,000 individuals each year.
